Two children on a donkey.
Width. Nothing but emptiness. So everywhere horses were grazing. Fences are almost none existing.
Although there are no fences that does not mean the horses does not belong to anyone. And when the horses are a lover of freedom, they are simply prevented from running away.
Cyclists' heaven ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/11_060922_waytosongkoel.jpg

As I said, this is how freedom looks like.
Mr. Cool ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/13_060922_waytosongkoel.jpg

You are never alone. From somewhere someone comes along.
Difficult to see, but right down the street you can see Matt from England. This illustrates the dimensions of the mountains.
Classic, Central Asian architecture.
In a poor country like Kyrgyzstan it is debatable whether such gigantism is the right style of architecture.

And then Claudia came over and we fled from Bishkek into the countryside. We went straight to the lake Issyk Kul.
Lake Issyk Kul ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/30_060927_lakeissykkul_southshore_closetoshorbulak.jpg
Lake Issyk Kul is huge. Actually, more like a sea. With a deserted coastline it is just perfect for camping.
Beautiful avenue close to Issyk Kul.

Once we cycled around the lake Issyk Kul we went went into the mountains and the high pass Chongashuu.
Somehow Claudia was surprised that it was so hilly. I had told her that there are plenty of 7000m peaks. I'd assumed that it is clear that there might be some high passes. Well perhaps it was a little bit too much. Therefore, we went back down and tried it elsewhere. Finally, we were running late and the season we had up before the pass even snowfall.
Shortly before sunset.
Jangykorgon Pass ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/44_061002_wayfromjangykorgonpass.jpg
Just before the beginning of winter and the first snowfall.
Colours of Ortotokoy.
Watercourse on Ortotokoy
And then we took the bus and went to a completely different area.
Again, there was plenty of water. What could be more obvious than building a dam?
Free Fall ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/53_061004_freefall.jpg
90% slope. Yes, that would have been nice. Although that would mean a almost free fall. Maybe not quite as great.
Heavily loaded ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/56_061005_heavyload.jpg
The trucks had to shoulder quit a lot of load.
Toktogul reservoir ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/57_061006_toktogulreservoir_torkent.jpg

Bishkek Bazaar ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/72_061007_bishkek_basar.jpg
On the road in Bishkek. Everything is used.
And then we dropped our bike and went trekking for a few days. A welcomed change.
Everything in sight ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/81_061009_alaarcha_aksaycanyon.jpg
Yes, he got everything in view.
Aksay Canyon ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/82_061009_alaarcha_aksaycanyon.jpg
At the end of the trek was the Aksay Canyon. A worthy goal.
Aksay Glacier ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/86_061009_alaarcha_aksayglacier.jpg
And in the middle of the valley was a nice glacier. More precisely, the Aksay glacier.
Mountain Panorama ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/87_061009_alaarcha_aksayglacier.jpg
What a wonderful mountain panorama.
Old mountaineer lodge ./../img/photos/kyrgyzstan/88_061009_alaarcha_aksayglacier.jpg
At the end of the trek was an old, Russian mountaineer hut.

What a location and setting for a mountaineering hut.
